About Sron a' Choire Chnapanaich [Sron a' Choire Chnapanich]

Rising steeply above the head of Loch Lyon, this high Corbett offers a quieter, more secluded experience than its neighbouring Munros. Its broad, grassy slopes lead to a summit with clear, rewarding vistas across the Orchy hills and the rugged peaks of the central Grampians.

Did You Know?

  • The name translates from Gaelic as the 'Nose of the Lumpy Corrie', a fitting description for the undulating, knobby terrain that characterises its northern slopes.
  • Despite its stature as a Corbett, it is often bypassed by hikers heading for the nearby Munros of Meall Buidhe or Beinn Mhanach, making it an excellent choice for those seeking solitude.
  • From the summit, you are treated to an unusual perspective of the iconic Beinn Dorain to the west, which appears as a sharp, pointed cone from this angle rather than the broad bulk seen from the A82.
  • Its position at the remote western end of Loch Lyon means any approach involves a significant walk-in, whether starting from the Glen Lyon dam or the West Highland Way near Bridge of Orchy.
  • The walk along the northern shore of Loch Lyon is long enough to ensure that by the time you reach the base of the hill, you have well and truly left the modern world behind.
